Example introduction, This is a hotel in Kyoto.
■シーン１／scene 1
広い外部空間、通路の屋根が人の居る空間を引き締めている。
Wide externai space. The roof of passage tightens the space where people are.
■シーン２／scene 2
これは、その通路沿いにある門。大きな屋根の下は暗く、門の間は狭い。
This is the gate along the passage.The space under the big roof is dark, The space between the gates is narrow.
■シーン３／scene 3
この門を潜ると出会う光景。門は境界になっている。外は野生的で大きな空がある。門の内は整えられた庭がある。この庭は外に比べ遥かに小さい。けれど、狭い空間に押し込められた感じはしない。むしろ、特別な場所に導かれた思いがする。つまり、この繊細な空間を感じるに相応しい空間の大きさを実感している。
When you drive through the gate, you can see. The gate is a boundary. There is a wild sky outside. Inside the gate is a well-arranged garden. This garden is much smaller than the outside. However, I do not feel that I was pushed into a small space. Rather, I feel that I was led to a special place. In other words, I feel the size of the space suitable for feeling this delicate space.
門という境界は越えると次の空間の大きさに体が合わされてしまう。もしもこの庭が門の外にあれば、それは唯小さなものにしか感じられないだろう。
If you dive the gete boundary, your body feeling will be adjusted to the size of the next space. If this garden is in a large spece outside the gete, it will just feel small.
■シーン４／scene 4
庭写真の左手の玄関を入るとこの様子。玄関は狭く天井の低い、暗い空間。その奥にエントランスロビーが見える。
This is the scene when you enter the left entrance of garden photo. This entrance is a narrow and low drak space. You can see the entrance lobby in the back.
■シーン５／scene 5
これはエントランスロビー。木造のより繊細な空間に至る。
This is entrance lobby. A more delicate space made of wood.
■シーン６／scene 6
このロビーまで来れば、椅子の手掛けの心地が想像出来るし、庭の草の一つにも目が留まる。やっと落ち着いて座れる具合を感じる。シーン１は綺麗だけれど、寛ぐ場所ではない。シーン６に辿り着いて漸くリラックスが出来ると思う。もしもシーン１の次がシーン６なら、突然すぎて寛ぐ事は出来ないだろう。門を潜り、体を馴染ませつつ至れば、自然にリラックス出来る。人は空間を相対的にしか感じられない。故に建築設計は丁寧に臨む。自分は住宅でも門という境界を考えて設計をしている。規模の大きな建築では重層する境界を考え取り組んでいます。
If you come to this lobby, you can imagine the comfort of this chair, and can see the grass in the garden. you finally feel calm and able to sit down this chair. Scene 1 is beautiful. But People can't feel it in a relaxing place. You need to reach scene 6 to relax. If scene1 is next to scene6, it will be too sudden to relax. If you go through the gate and adjust your body, you can relax naturally. People can only feel space relatively.
Therefore, architectural design is carefully approached. I design with boundary of gate in a houses. In large-scale buildings, it is necessary the boundaries that overlap.
